We miss Mum. We miss her smile, her laugh, her hugs. We miss her sense of humor, her phone calls, her advice. We miss her thoughtfulness, her love, her spirit. We just miss her.
I am not sure who said this originally but it is a quote that rings true for us;
“One of the hardest things you will have to do is to grieve the loss of a person who is still alive”
One day we hope that finding out you or a loved one has dementia does not have the same implications as it does today. Scientists are exploring all possibilities, pouring resources into research, and devoting their lives to finding a cure.
Myrtle was an inspirational figure in our lives and she inspired this website and its purpose.
At The Gift of a Memory our focus is to further awareness of the symptoms, causes, and treatments of dementia and to help in the funding of treatment and prevention of the disease.
We aim to achieve this with your help and our ‘shopping for a cause‘ initiative.
Our gifts help you deepen the connections with your friends and family by celebrating life’s major milestones. You will positively shine when you give the perfect gift for the right occasion knowing that a share of your purchase will go directly into research for the prevention of dementia and Alzheimer’s.
We will donate 5% of the purchase price of every item in our store to this cause.
So you shop, we give, and together we can make a difference.
Myrtle helped us choose the name of this site while sitting together in their living room discussing the project. We had a shortlist of a few names and ran them all by her to see what she thought.
She knew at this point how her future was to play out but she loved the idea of the site and didn’t hesitate in picking her favorite name.
“The Gift of a Memory. I like that one!” she stated.
Then she paused, and said with consideration;
“…because it is“.
